The Garden of the Gods

Where does one go to be inspired, to breathe deeply and experience the mightiness of the world we live in?

The sea
The mountains
The vistas of wide valleys
The list is much longer than this.
Considering the fact that Colorado is land locked, and I've already posted photos of the mountains here (see below)... we journey today, in our search for spiritual perspective to The Garden of the Gods. It is located just west of Colorado Springs, CO, and is well worth whatever time you spend there.

This place was donated to the public by one man, on the condition that it always be free for all to enjoy.
Enjoy!

Hope you enjoyed the brief tour, there is so much more than that what I've shown.

  3. That looks so awesome--how could anyone leave there uninspired?

    Great photos :)

  4. It is surprising how often the preservation of such places was the vision of one person or family, deciding to save rather than to sell, to consider the planet rather than the pocketbook.

  6. Your photos are magnificent. I never see anything like that where I live. And love the large clear sky against the rock formations. So different from our hilly small skies around here.

I now live on the shores of the mighty lake Champlain in no. Vermont

  8. Just beautiful. The kind of place that inspires me to lofty goals, unlike my beloved garden which reminds me to take care of the small details. Love these pictures.

  11. Verilion,

I can't wait to see Spain!! I'll keep an eye out for wonders like this. Thanks for the tip!

    Jon,

Well... scramble is right, it was 103 degrees!

    Sognatrice,

I agree, and I took about 400 photos, but I just didn't have time or room to put them all up.
Trying to see how fast I can use up all the memory on my computer!

    East coast,

Isn't that incredible? I am so glad that he did that! John Muir gave us Muir Woods in California... ahh the redwoods are also extremely inspiring!

    Mis Adventures,

    Glad you liked them!

    Ally,

Yah, but you have a purple bridge!! So... that's something.

    Eb,

It's true, there really is nothing like the Rockies. Nothing at all.
But Garden of the Gods is pretty great.
    Thanks for coming by!

    Kat,

I agree, we must look after both. Small gardens are a wonderful delight. A different delight... albeit, but a lovely one all the same.

    Pink Flowers,

Well, he's a wanderer, that lion of mine. He LOVES the beach, and he loves to travel, so this was a treat for him.

    La Cubana Gringa,

Did you see the climbers on the photo I posted? Half way up? They are TINY! I could only think, yikes... hope they make it back down ok!! If I was going to climb, I wouldn't do it in the hot afternoon sun!

    Kelly,

YAY! Glad you liked it. Hope you are feeling better.

  12. Oh wow! Stunning, Scarlett. That last photo reminds me of how I imagine the spines of a dragon might look. No wonder there is inspiration to be had in the Garden of the Gods.

  13. Beautiful!

I don't see the photo of the most famous rock that looks like it's balancing and about to tip over. I have some great shots of my husband and I under it looking vulnerable.

  14. Gorgeous! I love that the man who donated it wanted it to be free for all to enjoy it. What a great gift!

    Rock Dragons! That's great!
    Glad you liked it.

    Colleen,

I didn't see it! GASP... maybe it fell! Or got blown away in the wind... oh no wait, that's Wyoming.

    Starshine,

Wasn't that awesome of him? I am very grateful he did it, it's an amazing place.
