Wandering Through Gardens

It would seem that the more technologically advanced we become, the busier we get. Faster is better, getting more activity crammed into each day is an accomplishment, and it feels like a downward spiral out of control.

When my head starts to spin from it all, I step away to a retreat. A place where I can breathe, where there is peace, where time is not measured by anything more than the passing of the sun and certainly not broken down beyond that.

I simplify.

There are many places I go, depending on how much light and air and space I need. I love to go to mountain lakes... go on long walks... wander through parks around town... go on long drives. One of my favorite destinations is the Denver Botanic Gardens.

I would live there, if they would let me.

It is open year round, which is nice, because the gradual seasons are like a waltz that changes tempo as we move through them, and this is a wondrous place to see Mother Nature reveal her raimant for the next movement.

Viaggiatore and I visited the gardens recently and it was absolutely glorious, as it always is.

Come along and wander with us...

  2. Scarlett,
Lucious place to recoup ones energy and revel in restorative thoughts. It looks like aa place where you can come to understand what peace is.
I found the same presence it the Japanese tea garden in San Francisco.

  3. Hey Rel!

Glad to see you! Hope you had a good run.
It is a very peaceful place, usually. There are some busy days, but on the whole, it is completetly peaceful and serene.
    Excellent place to refresh.
And... I *LOVE* the Japanese Tea Garden in SF. Also one of my favorite places on the planet.

Thanks for the smile, I hadn't thought of it in a while.

    Christina!

    Very relaxing, and thank you!
    They were fun to take.

  5. How lovely! I do the same thing here in Ohio at the Arboretum. I love to see the gardens even in winter. Sad about Seamus retiring...

  6. Jules,

Very glad that you enjoyed it! It is absolutely glorious.

    Hi Kat!

They are wonderful year round, aren't they! Every season has it's own special beauty.

Very sad about Seamus, I will be posting about that tomorrow.

  7. Ahhh...I feel more at peace just looking at these photos. What an incredible park. I was just reading about Erin from the Olive Notes who returned to the U.S. after one year in Italy and she was commenting on how she has so little free time here as there is so much time spent doing things and driving places, unlike the slower pace of Italian life. Hmmm...we do need to simplify, don't we?

  9. Gosh, that just looks like the most amazingly relaxing space. And nice and warm, too! Could you send some of that sunshine my way?

  10. Jeni,

Simplicity is fundamental. I can't wait to get to Italy to submerse myself in that slow, life loving culture.
    Soon...

    Pearl,

Isn't that funny! We are synchronized! Timing is everything.

    Hey Girl,

Yes, it is amazing. I love it.
I will see what I can do about sending sunshine, would you like that air mail or next day delivery?

  13. Lovely! One of my favourite places to go for breathing space is our small, local, volunteer-maintained Botanical Gardens. Not as grand as Denver's but just as serenity-inducing....

  14. That John Denver sure had a big back yard! Looks lovely, Scarlett, a great place to lose oneself!

  15. Hey Molly,

I've thought about volunteering there... that is a good idea. Gardens are wonderful, no matter the size or grandeur.

    Hi Jon!

The Botanic Gardens here are just a smidge, compared to our real backyard, which is the Rocky Mountains... and yes, those are enormous. We are very blessed!

  17. Marjolein,

    Aren't they something else?
They won't let me live there, so I am relegated to visiting as often as possible.

I swear, I could be completely happy living in the Japanese tea house, in the Japanese garden... but no.

    *sniff*
