"A ruby that isn't, for a king who never was" refers to King Arthur in Tennyson's "Idylls of the King," whose sword contained faux ruby cabochons. You have gone to see the magical Glastonbury Tor, where King Arthur and Queen Guinevere are buried. They were considered mythical until oak caskets said to contain their remains were rediscovered in 1190 AD and are now reverently displayed.

You have gone to Russia to view the few Faberge Easter eggs still in existence which were made for the Russian Royal family. The one for 1893 was the Imperial Caucasus Egg, and it was created for the king's brother, the Grand Duke, who lived in the family's mountain retreat as he suffered from tuberculosis.
The Caucasus is made of ruby red enamel decorated with diamonds, and is on display in the Kremlin after being hidden for many years. Most of the Faberge eggs were sold or destroyed by the Bolsheviks during the Russian Revolution.
