First guess:
Imperial Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia for the Imperial Ballet's presentation of Cinderella in Dec. 1893
rel
"A ruby that isn't, for a king who never was" refers to King Arthur in Tennyson's "Idylls of the King," whose sword contained faux ruby cabochons. You have gone to see the magical Glastonbury Tor, where King Arthur and Queen Guinevere are buried. They were considered mythical until oak caskets said to contain their remains were rediscovered in 1190 AD and are now reverently displayed.
Hello Rel!
While we LOVE the Mariinsky Theatre, that's not where we are.
Westward...
Dear Hearts,
Sigh... oh the romance of it all!
I love King Arthur and Queen Guinevere... I hope those caskets are really theirs!
But... that is not what we've gone to see. Keep looking!

You have gone to Russia to view the few Faberge Easter eggs still in existence which were made for the Russian Royal family. The one for 1893 was the Imperial Caucasus Egg, and it was created for the king's brother, the Grand Duke, who lived in the family's mountain retreat as he suffered from tuberculosis.
The Caucasus is made of ruby red enamel decorated with diamonds, and is on display in the Kremlin after being hidden for many years. Most of the Faberge eggs were sold or destroyed by the Bolsheviks during the Russian Revolution.
Hearts,
It makes me physically sick that most of the eggs were destroyed.
But... we are nowhere near Russia. You were *much* closer with your first guess.
GO WEST... until you hit LOTS of water.
Good luck!

I'm so rubbish at this - all that comes to mind is Atlantis (and if you got there I really want to know about it) and Elvis Presley somewhere in the US...
Des Moines?
Hey Vanilla!
You just visited this particular country...
Perhaps Elvis is King of Atlantis now? ;o)
Clowncar,
Too far... a little too far west... ;o) It's on THAT side of the pond.
Scarlett & Viaggiatore
OK.
I'm going to give you a freebie clue:
We are in Great Britain.
What have we gone to see?
Scarlett & Viaggiatore
Another wild stab here... although the connection eludes me... Are you going to see Alexander and his self-proclamation as King of Serbia?
Hi 2 Steps!
;o)
It's in Great Britain. We are going to see a specific thing; an item that is very old...
Scarlett & Viaggiatore
OK I'm going with the Rosetta Stone....
Michelle!
Well, you are sort of right... it IS a stone... take a close look at the clues... but it's not the Rosetta Stone.
Keep looking, the point is still up for grabs!
Scarlett & Viaggiatore
I knew that wasn't it as it really didn't fit the other clues but I just like typing "Rosetta Stone" ;)
Back to the drawing board!
Btw, what did people go back to before there were drawing boards?
That's a George Carlin classic :)
Aha! The Black Princes Ruby at the center of the Imperial State Crown, one of the oldest Crown Jewels of the UK....

Fascinating history!
Erm, Black Prince's Ruby. Apostrophes are our friends :)
Me again! For those curious about the king who never was:

Poor Edward!
Michelle!!
You got it!
It is indeed the Black Princes Ruby.
You know something, you are truly one amazing detective!
Great job!
Scarlett & Viaggiatore
I'm also rather stubborn. That helps ;)
Where to next?!
*LAUGH*
I'll get the next destination posted today... ;o)
Way to go, girl!
XO
Scarlett & Viaggiatore
Congratulations Michelle.
Patient persistance, that's the key.
Stubborn helps too. :)
rel
Thanks rel...I always knew the stubbornness would come in handy for *something* ;)
Well thank goodness, because I've got my own fair share of stubbornness.
;o)
I'll get the next destination up today, sorry there was a brief delay.
