It is native to Northern Africa and is used to treat fever as well as various other ailments.

Are you getting some of the (receeding) glacier from Kibo Peak?
There is also a water holding cabbage at alpine altitudes... of genus Dendrosencio, but I don't think that is cold enough.

the snows of Kilimanjaro?
Lobelia grows on Mt. Kilimanjaro, and is used to treat fever.
In fact, it grows right through snow, and is a larger variety than the tiny, mostly blue flowers grown in the US for bedding and hanging baskets.
