Angels and Seasons

These are some photos (for Phoctober) of some incredible sculptures in the mostly unlikely place.... they guard the front of an antique store in Denver and watch over the city as it rushes by. On the left of the entrance are the four angels of the Crucifixion of Christ, on the right are the four Seasons. Behind them, guarding the door, are a recreation Donatello's Marzocco Lions (1492).

These sculptures are exquisitely done, and are a favorite of mine to enjoy. Their detail is nearly perfect (I've yet to find a flaw and I've examined very closely many times). They are fluid where there is movement in the concept and solid where foundation is necessary to complete it. They are made of sparkling white marble with whispering traces of grey. They are iridescent in the sun and glow warmly when the light fades. They are stunning by moonlight. Entrancing muses... I sincerely hope that you enjoy.

These pictures are basic, I have some detailed artistic shots that I may post before the end of Phoctober.

The unlikely placing of these beautiful statues makes them thoroughly magical. Have you ever tried to talk to one, to whisper in an ear? I feel sure they have messages they want to convey.
I can well understand why you find them such a favourite to enjoy!

Looking forward to seeing your detailed artistic shots!

They are striking and I can imagine visiting them again and again for inspiration, but also for reflection. Autumn is my favorite, but then so is Autumn. ;)

Do you ever post in JPG, the online magazine?

They are great and very large - if I had them I would have to move out...

Bet they look really pretty in snow, especially at sunset, when all things white, take on hints of blue, and pink.

Gorgeous statues, nice to have such guardians in your town. I wonder how they came to be, who was inspired to create?

Those are beautiful. Interesting that winter is a man and the rest are women.

I couldn't pick a favorite, so I brought them all home!

If they do wind up in your art, I can't wait to see them!

They speak to my soul, lady... in orchestral tones.

I agree... and I MISS YOU!!!

That is my favorite season too, but not my favorite statue, they are too magnificent to just choose one.
JPG what? There's something online that I haven't contributed to?!?!!!
ha ha ha...

They are that indeed. They are marble... very heavy, but worth more than their weight, methinks...

How did you know that! They are stunning, always, in different ways.

Yes you do! You delight them... did you know that?

She seems to be the popular one...

You know, I've often wondered the same thing myself... whose hands created these masterpieces.
What mind saw them and brought them to life...
Part of me loves the mystery though, because then I can imagine all different kinds of things.

And how!

Well, Winter and Spring are men, Summer and Fall are women. It is very interesting.

*giggle* yes, I do too!

I agree, we love the idea of their existence, and their goodness.

And the wings are pretty cool too!

Some Pink Flowers,

Then they speak to your soul too, good! Glad you are in such good company.

I have wished that very same thing many, many times.
Since they are obliged to remain at their posts, I go visit them often.
